Careers in Herbal Therapy

The Herbal Therapy Program is designed to serve a need for education and information in the field of herbal medicine by training students to become excellent practitioners. There is a growing need for clarity for consumers, pharmacists, physicians and complementary medicine practitioners in the use of herbal remedies.
Careers in herbalism include:
- Practice clinical herbology
- Work as an herbal pharmacist
- Perform herbal research
- Become an herb buyer or formulator
- Open a store as a retailer
- Herbal cultivation and wildcrafting
- Herbal marketing and product development
- Writer/journalist specializing in herbs
- Teacher/educator
Herbalists may also find positions working in practices with physicians or other practitioners, keeping in mind that it is illegal to practice herbal “medicine” as a non-licensed practitioner. Many people trained in herbology combine this skill set with other skills, such as Nutrition Therapy, acupuncture, body work, professional cooking, etc. For graduates of Nutrition Therapy Institute, combining a nutritional approach to health with a competency in herbal science can be extremely synergistic. In fact it is difficult to separate nutrition and herbology. Many dietary supplements contain herbs. Indeed, herbs can be considered strong foods.
